Justin Green - DC

Political Theory and Punditry from a native of Flyover Country

Just spent a few hours writing up the most accessible column I could manage — that suggests voters shouldn’t care who they vote for in November. (I think this look appropriately summarizes my feelings on the subject)
Naturally, I make the douche vs turd sandwich reference.
Hardly inspiring stuff from someone who works in DC

SO I DID SOMETHING IMPULSIVE
Woke up today and decided to move to D.C.
Packed my copies of The Republic, The Closing of the American Mind, Ideas have Consequences, Witness, The City and Man, and Giants and Dwarfs, threw some clothes in a suitcase and went to the airport to buy a plane ticket.
I’m writing this from 33,000 feet while en route to Washington. As someone who’s spent most of the last five years convincing myself why I shouldn’t do things, this feels really good.
As someone who cares a great deal about politics, and more particularly the way we discuss our political world, it’s become quite clear that you have to go to DC to get into the game. This is my ante.
To friends and family, I will see you soon.
To Washington D.C. based folks, I’ll see you sooner. Feel free to contact me here or on Twitter @BearGreenZ. I’d love to meet up with any of you for coffee, drinks, or whatever. Also, if you’d like to hire me, that’d be great too. Among other activities, I occasionally write things about politics, philosophy and my pet peeves.
This is exciting.
Even still, I’ll miss this:

To summarize: I’m excited and more than a bit nervous. Future, here we go.

Word to the wise: the Spanish and Basque aren’t thrilled when Americans tackle steers in the arena at Pamplona. This is what a Spanish shoe does when it collides with your face.

The castle is spectacular this time of year.

In a “Worst looking picture of myself of all time” contest, this would surely be near the top. With that said, this was a fun day. Good sized sailfish, some tuna, and a mahi mahi.

Was a quiet day here on the blog due to writing up a paper for Dr. Kohen.
To avoid spoiling the fun, I’ll limit myself to saying I agree with a statement said by Golda Meir and Newt Gingrich. Go wild, Google!

Afternoon Delight

To celebrate surviving the midterm exam in Dr. Kohen’s class this afternoon, I’ll be writing some longer form posts and posing a few open questions.

First, the questions:

1) What would be the impact on the state level if the Defense of Marriage Act were to be repealed? Would this cause serious problems for states due to the full faith and credit clause, or is this concern overstated?

Lawyers and law students, go wild please.

2) What would you do to increase revenue for the federal government? I have a list of some options here, but feel free to add your own. That debt isn’t going anywhere.

Just two questions today. I’ll be around all evening, so feel free to spam away.

Also, here’s a GPOY for ya’ll to enjoy at my expense:

Look at the size of that noggin.
